About Alumni Escapes.
Market Your Vacation Home within the Trusted Dartmouth Alumni Community.
Alumni Escapes offers you and fellow Dartmouth alums the unique opportunity to market your vacation home within the Dartmouth alumni family. It’s like a private Airbnb network with a philanthropy twist. As a vacation homeowner, you can rent your property to fellow alums and:
- Enjoy strong rental income;
- Generate a gift for the college;
- Rest assured your home is in good, green hands.
If you’re like many Dartmouth alums, you have more passions than you have time to pursue them. And while you love going to your special vacation home, chances are it often sits empty (even though the bills to maintain your property keep coming). Renting your home is an option— but turning over your keys to complete strangers may not be. Alumni Escapes enables you to rent your home with confidence and contribute to the next generation of Dartmouth students.
And if you already have experience renting your vacation home through another platform, you’re invited to participate with Alumni Escapes as well. There is no cost to advertise with Alumni Escapes. We only receive payment when your home is successfully rented.
Or, Market Your Primary Home While
You Vacation or Work Elsewhere….
Occasionally, alums want to rent out their primary home while they are on vacation or conducting business elsewhere. Renting your primary home can pay for your vacation! For example, homeowners in the Hanover area may consider renting their home during Dartmouth graduation, reunions and Homecoming while they take a trip, go on sabbatical, or travel on business.
You Receive the Tax Benefit and
Recognition for Your Gift
When you rent your home through Alumni Escapes, we ask that you donate a minimum of 10% of your rental income to Dartmouth, Tuck, Thayer or Geisel, but you are free to give more! You can give to the program of your choice—whether it be the Dartmouth College Fund, a Varsity sports program, the arts, you name it.
And because the gift comes from you and not Alumni Escapes, you receive the tax benefits and recognition from the College.
The Rental Process.
No-fuss Transactions: Alumni Escapes manages the payment transactions so you don’t have to collect from fellow Dartmouth alums. Renters pay us and then we pay you, keeping the transaction secure and professional. Alumni Escapes collects all the funds including cleaning fees and lodging and sales tax, and forwards all funds, less our 10% transaction fee on the gross rental amount, to you, the owner.
Management Fees: Alumni Escapes has a modest 10% management fee which we retain from the gross rental amount.
Donation to Dartmouth: We ask that you make a minimum donation of 10% of your net rental earnings. Alumni Escapes will send a note to include with your donation so that the College knows that you have partnered with us in a way that gives back to Dartmouth.
How To Get Started.
To rent your home through Alumni Escapes, we ask for the following:
List of Amenities: To effectively market your home, we need to know number of bedrooms, bathrooms, and number of people who can sleep there. Plus, a description of major appliances, amenities such as pools and hot tubs, views, and proximity to attractions—the beach, mountain trails, shops in town, and so on.
Photography: We will need quality photos of the exterior and interior of your home as well as views outside your window that capture the charm of your location— such as views of the surf, golf course, cityscape or garden.
Rental Weeks: How many weeks are you interested in renting? Do you plan to rent during peak seasons or during the off season? We are happy to work with your schedule.
User Guide: This document includes requests you have for folks staying in your home, such as when to put the garbage at the curb. It also includes instructions for using various appliances or amenities, and recommendations to optimize their visit.
Rental Rates: Decide on your nightly/weekly rate, any extra costs, and whether or not the price will change with the season. We are happy to help you determine rental prices.
